Amanda’s father took her to the amusement park last Saturday, and it was okay for a while. They went on all the rides, walked through the Fun House, and laughed when they got dizzy hanging upside down on the Pirate’s Ship. The nachos and cheese fries were good even though her tummy hurt and dad kept going to the bathroom. But Amanda wished that her father wouldn’t have lectured her on boys, or explained how important it was to get good grades in school. She hated when dad tried to teach her things in the middle of having fun.

You sure as heck do know dads, Mark. They can make you grit your teeth.

Unfortunately for kids, parent responsibility drives away fun. I wouldn't have heard Dad on the Pirate Ship. The ride fills me with terror so I would have shut myself out to his words. No fun for me.

I think as a parent I may have been guilty of this. Comments are closed.
