Hungry, thirsty, scratched.
She never planned to own a dog, but he was special.
Rosita named him Afortunado, “Lucky.”
Vet checkup. Mixed breed, no chip, good health.
Vaccinations, bath, haircut.
Love.
Rosita and Afortunado enjoyed walks, meals, and playtime.
“I’m lucky to have him,” she told friends.
Last Thursday, Afortunado frolicked in the dog park.
Then, the gunshots. Dogs scrambled. Owners screamed.
Afortunado ran toward the sound.
Rosita was in danger.
Afortunado lunged for the throat. Bullets pierced his chest.
Blood poured out, shooter and hero.
Their luck ended. Rosita’s continued.
