An Oasis, by Marjan Sierhuis

8/5/2020

Where cherry trees filled with pink blossoms, have branches that sway in a gentle breeze.

Where amid a clear blue sky, the warm rays of the sun caress our smiling faces.

Where birds chirp as they flit from branch to branch, and fill the air with song.

Where we are at peace in our oasis, Not afraid to be alone, And feelings of isolation and fear, slip by the wayside.

Where we hold onto the tranquil beauty of a floral oasis
to strengthen our will to carry on.

Thank you for your beautiful words and photo, Marjan.

[Cherry trees in your part of the world have been featured lately on the news. So different this year without crowds of visitors to the park, isn’t it?]

Hello Krystyna. Thank you for your kind words. There were cherry blossom trees on the grounds of the University of Toronto. I stood on the sidewalk and of course maintained my required distance. It was difficult to choose a tree since they were equally beautiful. I miss high park this year but visitors are not allowed while the trees are in Bloom

Very poetic and such a visceral treat!
Lovely - yet most certainly a statement of the current times and what we choose to make of them, eh?

Thanks
Jim

Thank you Jim for your lovely words. I took this photo at the University of Toronto. There is an area where visitors were allowed. Of course we must keep our distance.. My camera is amazing. The scene inspired me and took me to another place.

All the best.

Lovely - reminds me of time in Victoria - cherry blossoms lining the whole street.
thank you

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
