After a deer ran Audrey’s car off the road, she had no choice but to walk in the pouring rain. She made for the nearest welcoming-looking thing, a flash of green neon; as she approached, she was thrilled to make out that it said “Taste of Heaven Diner.” She figured she could wait out the rain over French fries and coffee. The first strange thing was that Audrey’s waitress looked familiar, and turned out to have been her Kindergarten teacher. Then Audrey saw other people she’d known. When she saw her grandfather, who’d passed away the year before, it clicked.

Brilliant - still surprising over multiple reads.
