The weight of the past is upon him. He wonders what it would feel like to just walk into the crashing waves, to be free from guilt and remorse.
He considers it for a moment, but then looks back along the sandy beach and sees that his footprints have been erased by the advancing tide.
He ponders, then turns away from the sea and walks back up the beach, his face illuminated by the purifying rays of the golden sun.
