Be Mine, by Sue Clayton

27/5/2022

Not a day passed by when I didn’t pause outside her window, just for a glimpse.

But glimpses weren’t enough. A bench outside the window allowed me to sit and gaze continuously at her beauty, devising ways to make her mine.

My daily obsession became conspicuous, so I reverted to the cover of darkness, admiring her beauty through the brightly lit window.

Desire ultimately overcame me.

Unlawful entry, malicious damage and theft was the charge. But for one glorious night she became mine.

I’d broken in, smashed the showroom window, then driven her away.

The silver BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe.

Better to have loved and lost?
Definitely going to be some loss here (as in his freedom). ;-)

Awesome I wasn’t expecting the grand theft auto at the end they I can imagine tire marks from the handbrake turn before hitting 155 mph with the police in hot pursuit shouting stop the vehicle and put your hands out the window

Quietly subversive, funny, & altogether magnificent.

Wow! did you really, Fliss. Congratulations and happy driving.

Thanks for all the comments. I do, however, love my beautiful Land Cruiser Workhorse. She's a sweet old girl who never lets me down.

    "Classic"
    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
