Big-Hearted Oak, by Don Tassone

22/1/2021

The oak tree was big in every way. Not just in stature. It was big-hearted. So much so that it dropped its acorns not just out of necessity but out of love.

When its seedlings emerged, the great tree was filled with joy. It watched in awe as they grew. It protected them. It even shared nourishment from its roots.

As its offspring dropped acorns of their own, the tree grew old and weak. One day, it fell softly to the Earth.

There it lay through the seasons, giving sustenance to new acorns, its love and life never ending.

In love with your story, Don. You remind me of Paul Brunton, worshipper of oak tree.

"there it lay through the seasons" - says it all. Magnificence and majesty is always found in trees. Reminds me of Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree.

Enchanting homage, Don. Reminding me that I am forever humbled standing beneath a mighty oak, even more so when I try to hug it. I am equally humbled when my mother and father come to me in spirit and remind me that I am now joyfully watching my own seedlings drop acorns so that I may fall softly.
