"The above entry is the well-known tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. But I have been embellishing it for my first grader grandson as a never-ending tale when I go to pick him up after school. Each vignette has a beginning, middle and end - but with a cliff hanging element of suspense. (Works better than any treat for total obedience.) 100 words is just about right for the ride in the car home...So that's my first installment."
Part I
Mother gives Jack the cow to sell in the market. Jack meets an old lady who gives him some magic beans for the cow. Mother slaps Jack, throwing the beans out the window. Instantly, a tree begins growing. Jack climbs, hot, sweaty, reaching the top, arriving at a castle. Entering, he is almost blown away by a fierce wind traced to a snoring giant. Nearby, a duck sits on a golden egg. Jack pockets the egg, runs back to the tree and climbs down.
Mother smiles when she gets the golden egg. She wants more which Jack promises to get.
