Dinner of Love, by Peggy Gerber

FOOD
Bethany groaned as she opened the oven door. The chicken was burnt, the potatoes were mushy and the broccoli had practically disintegrated. She particularly wanted her first Valentine’s Day dinner with her new boyfriend to be perfect. She really liked him.

When Justin arrived at Bethany’s apartment, he presented her with a dozen roses and complimented the beautifully set table. As they sat down to eat, Bethany teared up and whimpered, “I am so sorry about the overcooked meal. I’ve ruined dinner.”

Justin gushed, “What are you talking about?” Everything is delicious.”

Bethany smiled. One day she would marry this man.

Definitely a keeper :)
Certainly a story of cooking stress we can identify with!

Serving someone a meal can be an emotional experience. He did everything right. Amazing how in 100 words you can feel like you know these people.

I'd be rushing down the aisle.

Oh yes, he's a keeper! Does he have any brothers?

This is such a sweet story! Sometimes its the effort and not the final product that matters :)

He understood the effort and the love behind it and not the end result. Indeed a good partner for Bethany:)

Am I alone in thinking poor Bethany? I am a little worried that Justin may have been late for their date. Maybe he should be the one apologising? The food might have been perfectly cooked had he arrived on time.

Thank you so much everybody for the lovely comments. Very much appreciated. And thank you Sally for your interesting perspective. It was actually my intention that Bethany found herself a keeper.

I do hope they'll be happy Peggy; I'm a cynical old granny, sorry!

He does sound like a keeper Peggy, but I'm not sure I would trust him. There was no truth in his statement.😊

So cute! I agree with Yehudis. In 100 words, I know them. It sounds like he is a good man. My husband will always eat my cooking - even when it is burned or not delicious, he will eat it and thank me for making it. It really is a wonderful trait in a husband. Bethany sounds like a lucky lady

I'm with Sally and Mary, Peggy. Just a tad cynical. Why was she cooking on the first Valentine's Day? Were all the restaurants closed during the pandemic? Good example of how thinking is generational. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I'm not quite ready to walk the aisle.
