End of the World, by Bobby Warner

13/11/2020

On our last night, we knew the world would end. There had been signs of what was to come. There had been tremblings, and dark movements, and fear thoughts of rapidly approaching doom.

We had long felt the tide changes, the weather (especially within us) changing; what might have been groaning in the earth, or our inner selves.

"How can it be?" she asked. "God, I don't know!" I said.

We went to sleep that night, in separate beds.

Soon after, in Court, we heard the words of dissolution, and our world of forty years together came to an end.

Thought it was a dystopian story until I came to the part about their sleeping arrangements. An interesting read.

Many thanks for the comments. This tale is autobiographic fiction.. Almost 3 years ago I lost my wife of 47 years; 5 years ago my wife now lost her mate of 30 years. We both know what it is to lose someone very close; and now, after experiencing the end of worlds with former spouses, we hope to build a new world, a new life together.

You both have the foundation to build and maintain a strong, new house. I wish you
the best in your construction project.

Challengesto its stability.
new life

In a strange way, you got me hoping.

Hi, can someone explain this for me? I don't understand it, but I feel like this is very interesting. Thank you in advance! :)

Kagome, my story was about great loss, this time through divoice of two individuals who were divorce. The story was fictional but based on my life; was based on my own great loss two years ago, not through by divorce, but through the passing of my wife of many years. Later (last year) I remarried a lady who lost her husband five years ago. We married last year and are now trying to make a new life of our own. I hope this clarifies my story a bit more for you. Thanks for reading and commenting.

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.
Recently, we've welcomed a lot of newcomers and found that even two batches doesn't cover them all. Wherever that happens, we'll simply be publishing 'as and when' during the course of the day.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
