She was a spandex blonde with a perfect body talking about saving the planet. Loudly. On her phone. In the checkout line. At Whole Foods. I wasn’t eavesdropping. Everyone heard. She told whomever she was talking to that she wasn’t sure about carbon footprints but that her second car was a hybrid. She explained that she voted green, her husband cycled to work, and she ate vegan. Well, mostly, sometimes. Several people in line started coughing or choking, I’m not sure which. As she walked out to load her SUV, one of them thanked her on behalf of the planet.

With her "perfect body", I'm certain that she would be the perfect poster child for our planet. Pretty people=pretty planet. Ummmm, maybe it doesn't work that way. I enjoyed your story, Jim.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't true... But it did raise a morning chuckle, Jim. And we all know someone like her. Great story.

Great one Jim. It reminded me of John Updike's short story, "The A&P.

Oh, those rich, big consumer, eco-warriors who love to jet all over the world, spouting at everyone, and know absolutely nothing about the natural world. It would be funny except so many politicians are the same.

Hypocrisy is alive and well. Keeps things interesting. Thanks for this!

One heck of a lot of story in 100 words. Loved it!

Well told Jim. I hope her mostly self never realizes how much she is part of the problem.

We all try our best, most of the time. I expect she's mostly on her phone extolling her virtues. I'm sure the planet is grateful.

I just wish 'she' and all her clones could read and see themselves in your story, Jim. Sadly, they'd think it was someone else. Great story :) Comments are closed.
