‘Tomorrow. Can’t wait. I was wrong there but the vicar’s too young for hope to matter.’

Mary watched the vicar leave the surgery without her dog. ‘Reverend, your Sammy is in great hands here.’
‘Thanks, Mary. Sammy’s never been poorly before. He looks awful.’
