Now standing there, friends and Generals’ descendants Vivian and Betty wondered whatever happened to their ancestors’ sacrifice. Even in a pandemic, their country remains stubbornly divided.
On horsebacks, Generals Grant and Lee scaled the red hill on the outskirt of Appomattox Court House (Virginia). In past they fought together in the American-Mexican war, more recently against each other in country’s Civil War over slavery. Today they wanted to meet once more as old comrades. Reaching the summit they shook hands, aligning their horses side by side to feel past sense of patriotism. Next day, Lee surrendered to Grant unifying motherland.
