Interruptions, by Don Tassone

28/10/2022

He went into his home office, closed the door and sat down to finish an important report.

His phone rang. It was his son’s school, calling to tell him the boy was sick and ask him to pick him up.

No sooner had he sat back down at his desk when saw a deliveryman carrying a package to his door. He’d ordered a gift for his wife’s birthday.

He had just sat down again when his dog started barking. He looked out and saw deer in his backyard. The sun illuminated a rainbow of fall foliage. He hadn’t noticed before.

The moments we often miss because we are too occupied doing "other" things are those that can most deeply touch us. Well done as usual, Don.

Thanks for the reminder that being present can bring much beauty.

So wrapped up in his own world that he woke up long enough to see things happening around him but forgot to pick up his son? Wow, I love this half empty-half full story. Nice work, Don!

Sometimes, if not most of the time, interruptions can be a real pain in the...well, you know. But now and again, interruptions can be a good thing, bringing to life what otherwise we may have missed.
Nice one, Don

And that's why they call a dog a man's best friend. Thanks for another thought-full story, Don.

Interruptions sometimes make us notice this beautiful earth. Beautiful story, Don.

Sometimes you need certain interruptions to remind you what life's really about.

Thank you all. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." Interruptions are a blessing.

Simply written, but packing a punch.

He thinks they will never stop disturbing him, then he discovers the beauty of nature. Lovely story.

So many things more important than that darned report...even beautiful foliage! Wonderful!

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
