Gavin felt sick. He watched his chips disappear down the chute.
A crowd gathered around him and the others at the roulette table. Yet unlike Gavin, the surrounding players gave no hint of their distress as their chips slid away.
Gavin gritted his teeth and threw the last of his money onto the table.
With a fresh stack of chips, he quickly arranged them into the same pattern he always did.
His hands twisted together as the ball was thrown.
“C’mon,” he yelled, thumping the table violently.
“Double zero.”
Gavin’s head fell into his hands.
