Letter for the Bin, by Jenny Logan

Hey Cassie

Hope this finds you well? So me and Johnny got back together. Turns out I had got the wrong end of the stick, as usual, he says. Apparently, I over-reacted instead of waiting for all the facts. So long as I never see her sniffing round again!

I miss you, Cass. I wish you were here. It would help just knowing where you are and what you’re going through. I’m sure Dad didn’t mean whatever he did to upset you. He’s sorry now, anyway. Mum’s moping, hoping you’re not dead. You’ve punished us enough.

Come home.

Love, Sissy

A great read with its overlying hint at abuse. Guess Cassie won't be going home any time soon.

The narrative doesn't direct us but instead lets readers take their own imaginative journeys. Well done!

I left my heart with snail mail and epistolary novels. This little story brought back so many vivid memories. So simple and poignant, and true. I enjoyed every word :)

Thank you so much for your kind comment, Malvina. Evelina by Fanny Burney is one of my favourite novels.

Really well done, Jenny! As said, it makes us see several stories within your story...opens up the uncomfortable familial vault as well.

    "Classic"
    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
