Jasmine looked at the middle-aged man who bore a stunning resemblance to her recently deceased father. She felt an urge to talk to him about her relationship troubles, career-related problems, and the reason for this sudden overseas trip. The man was probably a soldier just like her father; she was sure of that. He turned to her with a slightly paternal smile. Longing for parental affection, Jasmine walked towards him and stopped abruptly, turning away in confusion. She had seen the enemy’s insignia, shining on his chest. Her dad held the same rank, Jasmine thought vaguely, as she walked away.

How often longing for a loved one causes us to to make the wrong identification! Good job, Padmini.

Nicely done. We've all encountered these doppelgängers in our lives and felt an instant connection.

Poignant slice of life, Padmini. Both soldiers probably held the same rank in their civil life; affectionate fathers to their daughters. He probably would have sympathized with her loss. Families on both sides of a conflict are not usually the enemy.

Seeing the opposition as we see ourselves, is the first step to world peace. Nicely done. 3/10/2020 04:36:10 pm

Maybe she lost her father's paternal identity in the journey of life, only to realize later he hadn't changed. Well penned, Padmini. 7/10/2020 04:03:38 am
