Lulled to Slumber, by Swapan K Banerjee

I take my relative to a Psychiatrist.

Doc, I say, all night she remains stark awake. She drifts off to sleep only when a dove starts cooing outside her bedroom window at dawn. She’s just landed a good job that’ll require her to do morning-shift soon.

“Do your parents often fight?” The Doctor asked.

“That’s why these dark rings are around my eyes.”

“Mobile addiction?”

“A little, Sir!”

“Here’s a soundtrack containing crooning of crickets. You play it every night before going to bed. It’ll help restore your circadian rhythm.”

She’s just started her new job. She’s not sleep-starved anymore.

I've always found the sound of nature's creatures a good remedy for insomnia. Except for when my dogs bark in the early hours.

So simple yet so efficacious! Sometimes, the job of a psychiatrist is more of an art than science. Well done, Swapan.
A very happy Diwali to you.

A very clever doctor. He uses her mobile addiction to find a solution. A lovely story.

My apologies for arriving late at the inauguration of your latest story, Swapan. (I was in the hospital earlier today for a day procedure)

Beautiful, soothing story. Glad the “crooning of crickets” helped her. If she needs a daytime nap, would the chirping of grasshoppers help?

Happy Diwali!
