If she wasn’t scheduled to die in two weeks in an Amtrak derailment, Marissa might have lived her dream by becoming a death penalty attorney. She would have married Milton and moved to the Queen Anne section of Seattle, would have bought a collie and walked it twice a day, would have become an expert in DNA analysis, and would have freed several inmates on death row. But she asked Milton if they could take a short vacation. She needed to get away and clear her mind after years of studying. Milton suggested they go to San Francisco by train.
