While the light lasted, danger abated, but that was how things went.
The creature cursed. Her prey had endless ways of keeping that dreadful fire going.
Once the light was out she’d have them. They’d been drinking. She just needed one to extinguish that light. Then she and her offspring would be well fed for a week.
Why couldn’t humans co-operate? If she couldn’t have their livestock, which they’d protected (she loathed the creatures with the growls and teeth), she must feed on the humans.
What other option was there? The likes of her would never turn veggie.
