Sonia’s son married a lovely woman and moved to another state. They took their skills and values and raised lovely children. They were good parents and didn’t need Sonia. She was sadly glad – not knowing her grandchildren, but happy they were happy. Sonia would have liked the family to visit her or call more often, but they were busy. And Sonia was busy, but she visited and kept in touch. At Thanksgiving she joined their celebration of laughter and goodwill. Sonia’s son was happy; and his wife, to demonstrate how much she loved her family, reached possessively for his hand.
