A few days later, when I see her picture in the news, I wonder: If I had asked, would it have made any difference?
When she stops her car in the bus space, I wonder if she’s ok. It’s not ideal, parking in a bus space, but neither is talking to strangers who look like they’d rather be left alone. It’s her nurse’s uniform that I notice, and the ancient car, and the way she is leaning her head against the steering wheel. I could ask if she’s ok, but I don’t. I just wait for the bus to come.
A few days later, when I see her picture in the news, I wonder: If I had asked, would it have made any difference?
