“Whadaryou eight?” She smiled.
“Nah. Couldn’t skip when I was eight -- only kid in the second grade wearing orthopedic shoes. Nasty case of metatarsal inductus.”
They strolled on.
“They’ve stopped that. The bones will strengthen into the correct shape with normal use in bare feet.” She looked up at him.
“Never saw an Indian in orthopedic shoes –“ he put his arm through hers.
“How long were you in those shoes?”
“Humm – Ten. I hid them for the last time. “ He smiled. “ Doyawanna skip?”
“Sure .”
