Michael was a man of routine, so a child’s bedtime was suitable. Every night, he first turned on the nightlight, followed by a check under the bed. As with many formalities, his mind was able to wander, while words and actions held true through stories and songs. Thoughts often drifted to the inevitable day when she wouldn’t want this attention anymore. Becoming mindful for the finish, he assured her that everything was all right and always will be. She accepted sleep.
Lonely, in his bedroom, Michael faced the day’s final task – convincing himself of what he just told his daughter.
