Surprised they let her get the 74 words out before pulling the trigger. I lose a little more faith in humanity with every news broadcast. A happy ending would have been better. Not realistic, but better.

Ugh - deep sigh. Maybe I'll start watching the news again next year. Humanity becomes a little less humane with each day's events.

One has only to read The Kite Runner and look around to substantiate the truth the gut-wrenching nature of your story unfolds.

Just at the moment, though, we're moderating some of them so there might be a slight delat before they appear.

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am. On the rare occasions where there are more than 50 stories, we'll post an earlier set, probably around 5.00 UK time.
