The Choice, by Jim Bartlett

12/2/2021

“Have you decided?”

Jacob looks up from the papers, meeting his grandmother’s gaze. “It’s so hard, Grandmama. How do I know if I’m making the right choice?”

She smiles and puts her hands on his shoulders, giving them a tight squeeze. “Life is filled with choices, my sunshine. Too often we get lost in the worry of what might lie down one path or the other, and soon find ourselves living our lives in the shadow of doubt. Or even worse, regret. But know this, it’s never about making the ‘right’ choice, but rather about making that choice right.”

Should you follow your head or your heart? It's a real conundrum. Well done, Jim!

You're so right, Marjan. Heart or head, something we've all had to ponder at least once in our lives.

Well done Jim!! Great Wisdom if you CHOOSE to follow it. ;-)
Reminds me of something I like; "Don't count the years, instead make the years count."

Yes - I love that saying.
And, yes, also, you have to choose to follow it. Easy to say, hard to do. ;-)

Thanks much

That's a great saying. Would go along well with "the biggest failure is never trying." Smooth, cozy writing.

    "Classic"
    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
