The terminal illness gripped the Old Hunter tight in its grasp, dragging him down piece by piece. The days were bad, but the nights were worse. He would startle awake in the early hours to find his bed surrounded by all the birds and animals he had killed over his lifetime. Deer, Pheasant, Foxes, Badgers and Pigeons he’d shot, Birds of Prey he’d poisoned. They would watch in silence, ignoring his pleas and curses, simply waiting for the inevitable; For the Old Hunter to confront the final predator, the Ravager of Souls and face the judgement that is to come.

Your story makes one wonder who will be watching over you when it's your turn to transition to the other side of eternity...friends or foes...

Wonderfully told and so thought-provoking in all the ways mentioned by Pamela and Jim.

The hunter finally having to answer to the hunted. Be kind to everyone and everything and you might end up facing the Saviour of Souls.
