The Right Gift, by Don Tassone

3/12/2021

They had loved each other once, but disappointments had driven them apart.

How she wished she could find just the right gift to bring them together again.

She found it online.  When it arrived, she lifted it from the box and leaned it against the wall.

Then she stepped back and, in the silvery glass, beheld a lonely face.

It was the face of someone whose standards were high, who brought out the best in her, whom she vowed to never betray.  It was a familiar face even now, with eyes still kind and hopeful.

“Hello, old friend,” she said.

Many people would benefit by reading your story during these times of judgement of self and others. Thank you, Don, for always inviting us to dig deeper.

It was Socrates who said “Know thyself.” And Don gave us a word picture to push us in that direction. Well done!

    100-Word
    Stories

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
