Tiffany’s Impulsive Decision, by Peggy Gerber

17/6/2022

Tiffany was frantic. It was the morning of her best friend’s wedding and she wasn’t feeling well. She knew she should take a covid test, but if the results were positive, she couldn’t go. She’d be disappointing the whole bridal party.

Tiffany stepped into her bridesmaid’s dress and looked in the mirror. It was an ugly shade of salmon she’d never be able to wear again and it cost a fortune. She unwrapped a lozenge and made her decision. It was probably just a cold anyway.

Two weeks later when the bride’s grandma died, Tiffany didn’t go to the funeral.

Oh my, guilty as…! A gripping situation many no doubt have been faced with during this wicked pandemic. Very well written, Peggy.

I agree with Krystyna's comment. This was so well done, Peggy.

Similar situations played out just like this one many times, I am sure. It's been tough all round. Well done.

Reads like the opening of a longer story or even a novel. Well crafted, Peggy!

What a powerful story. I wonder how many lives would have been spared if the Tiffanys of the world actually gave a thought for the lives of the vulnerable and put those people's lives ahead of their own convenience or selfish desires.

A decision millions have been faced with over the past two years. You need to make the right one. Life's too precious to waste.

A great take on a modern dilemma, Peggy.

Wow, this made me gasp out loud when I reached the punchline. Very well done! It didn't end at all how I expected. I think if I'd been wearing a salmon pink dress I'd have faked the covid test to avoid going.

Summed up the covid situation and human nature very well. Also, I second Catherine's last sentence:)

Oh so good Peggy. My husband missed our daughter's confirmation because of a positive covid test that morning. Very tough but not as tough as a family funeral. Very well captured 👏👏

Thank you so much for those truly thoughtful comments. And Catherine, your comment had me laughing out loud.

A moment of smiles paid for with the tears of heartbreak. A sad reflection of what so many have had to face these last couple of years.
Well done
Jim

Agree with all said above — gripping, great and nicely done! It's shocking but somehow funny too. I imagine the bride's grandma died from the old age, not covid, and then it turns funny.

Another great job! Also, so true and sad.

Wow. Great piece. In my experience, this pandemic really exposed people for who they really are.
