The moon seems worried about her, reaching out and kissing her warmly on the cheek. The cloud is but a veil trying to cover up the face of the moon, squeezing out the last drop of light. Broken only by lightning striking thorns into the heart, darkness closes in, bringing a memory back to mind. Facing the window, lying on the right side, she holds the bolster tight. The pillow feeling wet, she clenches her teeth to keep from sobbing. A heart-wrenching voice leaks out from her mouth, but muted by thunder, as her body trembles in sorrow. Why me?

So sad, I want to know more and, like the moon, I worry about her. Beautifully written, David!

Many thanks, Lynn, Sandra, Jim, for reading this. I'm happy you like my experiment. People manage grief differently. Some stay in and switch between stages longer than bearable. Very encouraging comments.

A stormy portrait of someone who's suffered a great loss; but you leave the reader to fill in their own reason for 'why me?'

David, this expression of intense pain and sorrow is written beautifully. I kept coming back to it and each time came away with a different series of events that led her to ask “why me”
