"The essential challenge of Friday Flash Fiction is to write a fresh new story of 100 words (or just under) in time for publication that following Friday."

I NEED A BREAK!

So, for around ten days, I'm going to re-charge the batteries by staying away from posting Friday Flash Fiction stories and poems. Instead, what I'm going to do is to invite you to submit Classic Stories, Longer Stories and Poems (the categories are the same) between now and 23:59 on 23rd December UK time.
I'll then try to schedule any accepted submissions to appear on a special 'Holiday Page' over the period until Friday 7th January. They'll all be mixed up, and they'll appear together on the one page. I'll try to fix it so that they appear at appropriate times (i.e. Christmas stories around Christmas, New Year stories around New Year), but that depends a little on you.

In the New Year I'll sort them into their proper pages on Friday Flash Fiction.

I'll start accepting normal submissions again from around the middle of the first week in January. Until then, the top line of the website will look a little different.

So this is the page for ALL submissions intended to appear during the holiday period from
now until 6th January 2022 inclusive

Please complete the form (using the Storybox below) for the stories themselves – it's easier to manage editorially and helps us stay in line with data protection legislation.
Until then, everyone, and whatever your faith, have a lovely Christmas, stay safe, good writing, and all the best for 2022,

Gordon Lawrie, editor Friday Flash Fiction

    STORYBOX (for ALL submissions)

    I wish to submit the following story or poem below.
    Please remember the author's name, and don't CAPITALISE EVERYTHING or include "inverted commas'
    (e.g. The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway – please include the appropriate capitals, the comma, spaces and the name you wish to use.)

    PLEASE COMPLETE THE ABOVE BOX PROPERLY!
    IT MAKES MAKE EVERYTHING SO MUCH EASIER

    Total number of words in your submission, NOT including the title. Our preferred maximum is 100 but we'll consider up to 500. We currently do NOT accept stories of 101-150 words.
    Choose one please
    Please insert your story/poem into the box below.
    Write story text in here – or copy and paste from your favourite word processor. However please be aware that we can't accept poorly formatted work or work written in poor English, or stories in bad taste. We notify all new stories on Twitter.
    (If you have any special instructions, such as italics, etc, please just add them at the end of the story. We'll try to accommodate if we can.)

    This is to assert your copyright, and also to allow us to comply with GDPR regulations, etc..
    For more details, see our page under "GDPR Compliance". There's nothing sinister here, we're just ticking a box, too.

    BEFORE YOU SUBMIT, PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE FORM EXACTLY AS REQUESTED.
    TAKE PARTICULAR CARE WITH THE TOP BOX.

SUBMISSIONS GUIDANCE
Please read this before submitting
The main reasons why submissions are rejected are:
  • they're not the correct length;
  • the quality of writing is poor, often from someone unfamiliar with the English language;
  • the stories aren't actually fiction/poetry – we don't do essays or 'wry observations on life';
  • they're submitted as attachments, such as Word;
  • the stories have appeared elsewhere before;
  • the author has submitted two or more items (in any category) in the same week;
  • the entry form has been incorrectly completed.

Each of these problems can be solved. For instance, part of the fun of writing flash fiction is shrinking your story to the required size! But please – take care to complete the form properly. This my holiday!

Accepted stories and poems will be posted over the course of the holiday period – you'll just have to wait to see what comes in!
Thereafter, they'll be transferred into their normal sections.

Please note that no submissions will be accepted after 23:59 UK time on 23rd December 2021. This is a short-term

To all authors: please note that we never copy and paste from any other site for a number of reasons including copyright. If it isn't submitted directly, it isn't submitted at all. That also applies to stories submitted to the FridayFlashFiction blog (see also Our Posting Relationship with Other Sites in the T&Cs).

But we don't claim any sort of exclusive rights here, so feel free to submit your story anywhere else once your story has been published.

Please This page is for 100-word submissions, but you might have been looking for one of theP other categories. Click on the appropriate button below and hopefully you'll end up in the right place.
