Love the poem for its sensory effect, - can anyone explain the word lamathus please?

I know lathamus discolor is a variety of swift parrots found in Australia. I would imagine lathamus is just the genus - and probably some fun Latin word. ;-)

I have parrots and bottlebrush. Both speak to springtime.
