as snowflakes dance to their death
in the cold indifferent Atlantic
which has swallowed countless ships and sailors.
The snow is as white as the breakers
sizzling on the sand of this western shore,
a young woman listens to the sea's roar
admiring the rare sight of snow,
forgetting woes for a while.
A dog rushes into the freezing depths
then shakes water from its fur
as starlings take-off into the grey sky:
in swirling formation like a black ghost,
a magical sight on this windswept coast.
