THANK YOU!
for submitting your entry to the 2021 Edinburgh Festival Friday Flash Fiction Competition. We look forward to reading it!
Although we usually try to post on Fridays, many of your stories will appear on other days during the competition to allow us to spread our workload. We don't – can't – acknowledge your work individually. You'll know your story or poem has been accepted when it's published, and we also flag new work on Twitter.
We try to accept most things, but I'm afraid we have to reject submissions that:

We don't – can't – acknowledge your work individually. You'll know your story or poem has been accepted when it's published, and we also flag new work on Twitter.
We try to accept most things, but I'm afraid we have to reject submissions that:
- that are too long (and sometimes too short);
- that are 101-150 words long (this excludes poetry);
- that are offensive or inappropriate;
- that are not sufficiently well-written, with poor grammar or spelling. I'm afraid we don't have resources to edit poorly-prepared work;
- that aren't actually fiction, but are instead essays, true events, religious proselytising or polemic;
- where the submissions form has been incorrectly completed. It drives us mad and is currently the most common reason for rejection;
- particularly in the case of new contributors, where we are unable to confirm that the details supplied on the submission form are accurate.
SPECIAL NOTE: We've already received a surprising number of submissions where the form is incorrectly or carelessly completed. The form MUST include both the story title AND your name in the top box, or else we will not publish it. Thereafter, if we accept it, your submission will be posted exactly as sent – any poor spelling or grammar included. It's a competition!!
However we do hope you enjoyed writing for us and will write again, during the Edinburgh Festival Competition and in the future. However, please remember that you're limited to two entries, one per week, or else we’ll struggle to cope with it all. Entries close at 23:59 GMT on Friday 13th August. Any 100-word stories submitted with 'This is not an entry for the FFF contest' may be held over until the deadline has passed so that we can keep things simple for the judges. We often delay publication of stories because their authors have submitted too many at once, and so your favourite might get missed out.
During the two weeks of this year's competition, we won't be publishing any longer flash or poetry.

Meantime, remember that this is also a celebration of the Edinburgh International Arts Festival, and the Edinburgh International Book Festival in particular, so don't forget to click the link (the logo works as well) and check out this year's free-to-view virtual festival.
