She said, “What are you doing?”
“Huh?” He turned a vacant stare toward her with little effect.
She asked again, “What are you doing?”
“I’m venting. Isn’t it obvious?”
“Yes, but why?”
“My eighty-eighth birthday.”
“What about your birthday?”
“No one has called or sent a card, text, or email. No one cares.”
“I’m sure they will on the proper day. You’re looking at last month’s calendar.”
“I knew that. It was only a test.”
