The cause of this fresh aggravation was Bree, her recently hired nearly 17 year old, hi-tech Receptionist/Admin Assistant. Hi-tech everything else too, it would seem.
Julie was no longer sure where everything in her office computer system was any more. Miss Techno seemed to enjoy rearranging everything in the computer. She rearranged for the sake of hi-tech rearrangement.
To find something in common to bond, music. Modern music, if you can call it music, was Bree’s next interest outside of technology and work. Julie initiated conversation about Bree’s favourite music and group.
“Who is your favourite band?”
“Their name is spelt L. A. – E. R. but pronounced LADASHER. Do you know them? Heard them? Their songs?”
Julie shook her head.
Next, something else Julie hadn’t heard of. It was the hi-tech aspects of the contemporary music industry. It had evolved. The marketing. The retailing.
Bree explained, “They don’t take cash. You need non-fungible tokens, you know, like crypto currency, NFTs, to buy music.” She warmed to her topic. ”This year the L. A. – E. R. band released in three options. Audiovisual Package or Live Show or Special Album. They released all three. Choose one. Or more. Or all Three. How cool is that? So good,” she concluded, answering her own question.
“Non-fungible tokens?” muttered Julie quizzically.
“Ticketing companies sell them,” added Bree casually,” you know, uhm, on Blockchain Platforms. Makes it easy. Really cool.”
“Right,” said Julie thinking out loud, ”none of which existed before the Internet.”
Bree looked up. Her eyes widened. “What do you mean…before the Internet?”
In silence Julie returned to her office. Dreamily, she sank into her big chair allowing herself to become swamped by an idyllic vision. A vision which generated a weak, pensive smile. It was a vision of retirement on an uninhabited island somewhere in the Caribbean.
