High school sweethearts, they got married right after college. Now, they’re celebrating their silver anniversary with the entire extended family present. Most consider them the perfect couple; they are clearly content with their life together, and nobody’s ever heard them bicker, much less quarrel. After the guests leave, the happy pair continue reminiscing. She says she knows why it’s been joyful and loving all along. “Simple as; both of us are temperamentally monogamous.” His face lights up. “Yes, that must be it, even though I’ve never pondered it along those lines. You and I were meant to be together from the get-go to the end. Simple as.” She is on a roll now. “Let’s buy an urn, a large one. When we’re both gone and cremated, they will put our ashes in the urn. One and united forever.” Tomorrow he will take off and never be seen again. He was always all-in with ‘till death do us part’, but in the afterlife he would like to play the field. |
