The Andrew Siderius Memorial Competition: LONGER FLASH FICTION

Writers who wish to submit entries for the Longer Friday Flash Fiction competition should use THIS page. Please complete the form (using the Storybox below) for the stories themselves – it's easier to manage editorially and helps us stay in line with data protection legislation.

    STORYBOX (for stories of 151-500 words)

    I wish to enter the story below for the Longer Friday Flash Fiction competition.
    Please remember the author's name, and don't CAPITALISE EVERYTHING or include "inverted commas'
    (e.g. The Old Man and the Sea, by Ernest Hemingway – please include the appropriate capitals, the comma, spaces and the name you wish to use.)

    Total number of words in your submission, NOT including the title. Our preferred maximum is 100 but we'll consider up to 500. We currently do NOT accept stories of 101-150 words.
    Please note that submissions for this part of the competition must be between 151 and 500 words in length. Please make sure your wordcount is accurate.
    Please insert your story into the box below.
    Write story text in here – or copy and paste from your favourite word processor. However please be aware that we can't accept poorly formatted work or work written in poor English, or stories in bad taste. We notify all new stories on Twitter.
    (If you have any special instructions, such as italics, etc, please just add them at the end of the story. We'll try to accommodate if we can.)

    This is to assert your copyright, and also to allow us to comply with GDPR regulations, etc..
    For more details, see our page under "GDPR Compliance". There's nothing sinister here, we're just ticking a box, too.

LONGER FLASH FICTION SUBMISSIONS GUIDANCE
Please read this before submitting
The main reasons why submissions are rejected are:
  • they're not the correct length – 151-500 words;
  • the quality of writing is poor, often from someone unfamiliar with the English language;
  • the stories aren't actually fiction;
  • they're submitted as attachments, such as Word;
  • the stories have appeared elsewhere before;
  • the entry form has been incorrectly completed.
Each of these problems can be solved, especially the first one. Part of the fun of writing flash fiction is shrinking your story to the required size!

IN THE WRONG PLACE?
This page is for entries for the longer 151-500-word competition, but you might have been looking for one of the other contests. Click on the appropriate button below and hopefully you'll end up in the right place.

During the competition, we'll still try to answer any problems sent to the email address below, but all submissions must use the Storybox.

To all authors: please note that we never copy and paste from any other site for a number of reasons including copyright. If it isn't submitted directly, it isn't submitted at all. That also applies to stories submitted to LinkedIn or to the FridayFlashFiction blog (see also Our Posting Relationship with Other Sites in the T&Cs).

But we don't claim any sort of exclusive rights here, so feel free to submit your story anywhere else as well.
