The dragon breathes fire
The flames scorch the countryside Better stay off your grass
Many moons ago, we used to live in Santa Barbara (miss it every day) and this reminds me of the Santa Ana winds, whooshing their warm dragon's breath down from the foothills every summer, either throwing gas on fires (usually intentionally set) and sending the flames through neighborhoods or keeping us on edge that one might start any moment.

🐲🙂🌬🔥 Thank you, Jim for reading and sharing some of your story. My goodness. How worrisome. But you said you also miss the place. I guess one had to weigh the pros with the cons.

I loved your comment as much as your haiku, Jim. Grass fires are so easily lit, spreading to infernos, and the dragon seems to be breathing hotter fire these days.

PoetryThis is the section where fiction prose becomes something else. We still expect the poems to be short, though – sonnets, perhaps, or around that length at the very most. Archives
