‘Intruder.’
‘What?’
‘Intruder.’
He lowered his voice, telling her to answer his questions with just one word.
‘Are they in the house.’
‘Yes.’
‘One or more?’
‘One.’
‘Where?’
‘Sitting room.’
‘I’m on my way.’
‘Hurry.’
‘Ten Minutes, stay calm and quiet.’
‘Hurry,’ she whispered.
She heard him open the outside door and the cat scream as he stood on her tail.
After an eternity, he knocked on the bathroom door.
‘There’s no one here.’
‘There!’ she pointed frantically at the sitting room floor.
They both looked at the intruder, a mouse.
