Whilst we were on holiday there we took a catamaran to Venice in Italy for a daytrip. Venice was beautiful, but I dreaded the seasickness on the way back. I never see any of the girls I went on holiday with now, but that was maybe twenty odd years ago. I shall remember the day trip we took to Pula though, and the amphitheatre and how our voices echoed there. Just like many memories of the past where I feel almost like I was another person. Now I am a real home-bird. Long gone are my desires to travel abroad. Maybe it’s because of finances and maybe it’s because I realise there are so many places I haven’t visited in my homeland the UK. Whether it be home or abroad, travel really does broaden the mind and what you might find on your doorstep can be just as rewarding as tropical destinations. What I dream of most is to take a little piece of my memory from there and weave it into my dreams of happiness. Whilst going through changes of life that week was one of many unfolding seasons as I was turned to face a complete breakdown. Maybe that is why that holiday seems so poignant. It was like life was catching up with me. Swallowing me up until I turned a corner again and could breathe once more. Full of hope for the future.
TRAVEL “Eine Flasche wasser bitter,” I said and paid the woman. There were a lot of German people living in this part of the country. I was on holiday with a group of friends and the heat was intense. I drank the bottle of water greedily. Ironically, Italian architecture was everywhere. The language for the native Croatian looked unpronounceable though. There was a little island off the beach where you could take a boat over to with a little park which was covered in the shade of trees. It felt like bliss. In the evening Poreč would come alive and in the square I had my portrait done. The artist took years off me and when I got home a week later I gave it to my parents. I have no idea if my mother still has it though.
