In 1999, a woman happened upon the ring while tying her shoe during a hike through wetlands. She proposed to her girlfriend with it -- a native of the area who was a descendant of the woman who’d first worn it.
In 1899 in Colorado, a woman got engaged to one man, then fell in love with another. When she ended the engagement, she pressed into that man’s hand the band of gold with garnets that he’d saved long to buy for her. He flung it into a marsh, and later, with a different ring, successfully proposed to another woman.
