A Little Peace and Quiet, by Tom Baldwin

My neighbours are incredibly noisy, playing non-stop loud music, slamming doors and arguing at the tops of their voices.

If I complain they say that if I don’t like it I shouldn’t listen. Sometimes I wonder how much more I can take.

This morning was blessedly quiet, for a change. Then late this afternoon a lot of police arrived, with people in white overalls and hoods. They sealed off and searched the house, and now they’re ringing my doorbell.

I’m sorry, of course, but I’ll tell the judge that all I wanted was a little peace and quiet.

Unfortunately an all too common scenario in certain parts of the world.

So glad to not have been one of those noisy neighbours. Well written, Tom.

Inconsiderate neighbors can make your life a misery. It seems our protagonist here reached his breaking point.

I wonder how much peace and quiet there will be in cellblock "C"?
Nicely done, Tom and a slow build to throw you off, yet at the same time hint at what might lie ahead.

Thank you all for your comments. Anti-social neighbours can be a nightmare for the community, but I don't advocate this solution!

Touches a chord with most of us, Tom - though the solution was a bit drastic! Loved the story.

    Friday Flash Fiction
    Rules
    Kinda obvious, really...
    • Fiction only
    • Stories of 75-100 words only
    • Don't be nasty or cheat
    • Include your name and a story title

Since Friday Flash Fiction began in September 2013, 100-word stories have remained its 'beating heart'.

Normally, 100-word stories are scheduled for 07.00 BST (GMT in the winter) on the following Friday. However, where a large number of stories (more than 25) are due to be published on the same day, we publish a second batch around 10.30am.

Recently, we've welcomed a lot of newcomers and found that even two batches doesn't cover them all. Wherever that happens, we'll simply be publishing 'as and when' during the course of the day.

Each week we pick a story or (occasionally) a poem as 'Editor's Choice'.
It's a personal favourite, no more. Do you agree?
