"No, but I'll be alright once the rain comes." For a moment she faked a smile, but it hurt too much.
Then she looked at me and answered a question I didn't ask. "That's when I can let my love flow without folks seeing."
Her eyes lacked luster.
"See," she explained, "I'm not supposed to miss him, because I never should have loved him."
A rumble of thunder sounded in the distance. She smiled again but, this time, for real.
"I love that sound," she said. "Whenever we kissed, our hearts sang with that same beautiful noise."
