Derek stared down at the swollen, milky eyes, rounded in the yellow glow of the ward lamps. She looked up at him from the bed, weak smiles and trembling hands.
“I love you, honey,” she coughed. “Never forget.”
The heart monitor whined. The warm face went limp.
“We’ll be together soon,” Derek mumbled, checking the device on his wrist. He tapped at the keys.
Another rotation would do it. Then he would go back. Just one more.
