An ancient song reverberated whilst my frustrated tears mingled with the waves buffeting against a ship’s keel.
“Man overboard.” Cries echoed across the churning briny until silence fell.
My triumphant sisters dove deep, each towing a mesmerised sailor.
Through seaweed fronds a lone soul floated towards me.
“I didn’t sing for you.”
My discordant voice would never have been a lure.
“I’m deaf.”
He’d read my lips and the undulating sea spoke for him.
I grabbed his hand and a siren song of happiness swelled my heart.
