On my 16th birthday, dad gifted me a cage and a bird. That was my long-cherished wish fulfilled. I began to spend my days taking care of the new companion. But she remained silent and sad. Mom thought I was wasting time. She wanted me to study, which I hardy did. One day, she hid the cage and caged me in my room. Mom wouldn’t allow me to leave the room for days. Being away from my companion made me miserable. One night, somehow, I managed to get out of the room, discovered the cage, and set the bird free.

That night both he or she, and the bird, were free spirits soaring above captivity.

This was a lovely story where a teenager understands the importance of freedom. Nice read.
