Does the inky blackness multiply without the great reflector overhead?
Does the warmth from a body leach out the faster with no one to watch it drift away?
My feet grew numb as I stood on the shore, waves lapping over my toes.
Soon I’d not be able to pick them up to make the long walk into the deep.
Starlight pierces the darkness, a sparkling cascade illuminating my shrinking world.
A breath, drawn easy, fills my chest.
The call of the sea grows dim.
I retreat.
