I excuse myself to reapply lip gloss. Staring into the mirror, I decide to fib that I’m not feeling well, and go home.
But en route back to the table, two children bar my way.
“We’re your kids,” says the girl.
“He’s the one,” says the boy.
So I return to my date and order a martini.
