“Who are you?” she asked.
“Jim,” I said. “Who are you?”
“Ava,” she answered. “I’m five-years-old, and I’m in kindergarten.”
“Is that so?” I said. “And what are you studying in kindergarten?”
“Unicorns and bunnies.”
She was serious. None of the giggles, squeaks, and pops of a typical five-year-old. She answered the same way I might have said, “I’m studying particle acceleration in an electrostatic plasma.” Suddenly my past and her future flashed before my eyes. As she walked away, I wondered which one of us was going to save the planet.
